For this year’s SEMA show, the crew at Hotchkis will unveil a pair of modified Dodge Challengers highlighting its focus on classic muscle and its modern-day counterpart.

The two matching Challengers – a 1970 T/A 340 Six-Pack and a 2009 SRT8 – will share yellow paint schemes, graphics and wheels, along with a host of parts that should make the T/A stick as well as – if not better – than the 2009 model.

The 1970 Challenger, known as E-MAX, was originally converted to 340 Six-Pack trim by the previous owner, and now features new fabricated steel upper A-arms bolted into relocated pickup points, strut rods with Heim joints, aluminum steering rods and a set of front and rear sway bars, along with a new set of springs that lower the Granddaddy Challenger by two inches. In addition to replacing the aging front suspension, Hotchkis set out to create a well-rounded classic, equipping the T/A with Stoptech brakes, a Flowmaster exhaust and Forgeline wheels wrapped in Yokohama tires.

Hotchkis likes to point out that all its suspension parts can be removed and replaced with the factory units, allowing owners to keep things traditional for shows and swapped out when the time comes to drive.

FORD VAN FACTORY STARTS FOUR-DAY WEEK

WORKERS at the giant Ford factory in Southampton have started a four-day week as the company cuts production in response to the economic downturn.

Ford said there will be 17 non-production days at its Transit van plant between now and the end of the year.

Staff will not work on the production line on Mondays, although maintenance, office and other employees will work as normal. Workers laid off on Mondays will not lose pay.

In addition, the contracts of 125 temporary workers have not been renewed. The moves are expected to cut production at the factory from 74,000 vehicles last year to below 70,000 this year.

A company official said the cuts come in response to the “tough” economic climate, although he stressed that no full-time staff will lose their jobs.

The news comes ahead of next week’s new car sales figures which are expected to show a big fall in the number of registrations last month compared with September last year.

Chrysler ‘08 loss $400 million through Aug: report: report

dodge hid kits. (Reuters) – U.S. automaker Chrysler LLC on Tuesday told dealers it had lost $400 million so far this year, the Wall Street Journal said. ADVERTISEMENT

Chief Executive Robert Nardelli told dealers that despite cutting costs, Chrysler was still losing money, according to two people at a session for dealers where the figures were released, the paper said.

The company added that sales fell 24 percent through August and it had $11 billion in cash, the paper said, citing the people at the session.

A Chrysler spokesman declined to comment on the remarks, saying the meeting was “confidential.” He said Chrysler was meeting or exceeding its financial targets but acknowledged the company was “not in the black on a net basis,” the paper said.

A company spokesperson could not be immediately reached for comment by Reuters.

Chrysler, run by private equity house Cerberus (CBS.UL), lost $1.6 billion in 2007.

The company has unveiled prototypes of new electric cars as it hopes to shake an association with gas-guzzling trucks and dispel doubts about the strength of its vehicle development program.

But Nardelli also warned that without approval for a $25 billion loan package before Congress, the automaker could be forced to cut jobs and costs more deeply to free up funds for its electric car campaign.
